Nate was born and raised in Whatcom County. He graduated with honors in 1999 from Western Washington University with a degree in Communications and minors in Spanish and Anthropology. He later returned to WWU to earn his Master’s in Business Administration. Nate currently works at Whatcom Community College as the Vice President for Administrative Services, where he has served since 2001 in various leadership roles.
After competing at Montana State University-Billings and Western Washington University’s men’s volleyball teams, Nate continued his volleyball career in the realm of coaching. He coached two years at Lynden High School as the JV and assistant varsity coach (1999 and 2000 seasons). He then took on the opportunity to serve as head coach of the Whatcom Community College women’s volleyball program (Go Orcas!) for eight seasons (2001-2008) earning Regional Championships and Coach of the Year four times. The next eight seasons (2009-2016) were spent with Western Washington University’s nationally-recognized volleyball program (Go Vikings!) as a volunteer assistant coach. From there, Nate started coaching club volleyball — Wave and Lynden Volleyball Club — at multiple age groups (U12, U13, U14, and U17/18).
Nate has been married for 25 years and has three children. He enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and anything to do with the sport of volleyball.
“I am very excited to coach with Apex NW for the 23-24 club season. Training student-athletes to compete while watching them develop individual and team skills is extremely rewarding. I’m committed to helping our players achieve their goals and having fun at the same time. Go Apex NW!”
