David Moreno

U14 Ascent Boys Head Coach

David enters his second season coaching with APEX and is thrilled to be coaching boys volleyball in the Northwest.  He grew up in Los Angeles and began playing volleyball when he was 10, quickly learning to love the sport and the joy of competing on a team.  Before moving to the Bay Area for school, David played interscholastically for his junior and high school, he also played club in the SCVA region.  He studied politics and Spanish at the University of San Francisco and played on the men’s club team.  He began his coaching career there with the women’s volleyball team as an undergraduate and volunteer coach, and as an assistant for UC Berkeley’s men's volleyball club.  David has experience coaching multiple sports, has coached girls and boys volleyball at the middle and high school levels, and club volleyball in the NCVA region.  He is currently a volleyball assistant coach at Sehome HS, focused on developing love of sport and foundational volleyball skills in novice players.

David and his family have lived in Washington for seven years, and both of his kids attend school in Bellingham.  He has degrees from Berkeley City College and Western Washington University in sociology and language studies, and works as a Spanish teacher in town, mainly with students from preschool to 8th grade.   Lately, the kitchen is the place you’ll see his hustle, never waiting until Tuesday to have a taco.  To avoid the bustle, you can find him in a garden, usually contemplating the existence of an aphid.

“I am stoked to continue coaching volleyball for Apex and super excited to start the season.  Many of the most important lessons I have learned have come through sports.  One thing it taught me is that setting a goal and working towards it can be a lot of fun with a group of like minded individuals.  I want the same for my players.”
