Clayton Sin - Director

Email: apexnwvolleyballclub@gmail.com

Clayton is entering his tenth year of coaching and fifth year in the role of Club Director. He graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in English with a Secondary Emphasis and a Masters in Teaching. Clayton currently works as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher at Fairhaven Middle School. He greatly enjoys further pursuing his passion of coaching and mentoring as he spends his spare time coaching track and XC at FMS.

Clayton played club volleyball with the WWU Men’s Volleyball Club in 2010 and brought back the club for the 2014-16 seasons. He has assisted the WWU Women’s Volleyball Club for seven years and volunteered two seasons as a head coach for the Ferndale Boys and Girls Club. Clayton strives to improve the volleyball IQ of his players and instill a strong sense of confidence and competitiveness in his athletes on and off the court. Clayton's teams seek success on and off the court as athletes and individuals.

As the Club Director, Clayton values making every decisions based on a strong foundation of integrity - placing priority on the most important part of our program - the athletes. His dedication to Apex NW comes from his passion for the sport, helping athletes grow and love the game, providing opportunities for coaches to give back and spread positivity through volleyball, and showing the community the importance of supporting our future generations.

Caitlin Sommers - Assistant Director Fundraising and Sponsorship

Email: csommers.apexnwvc@gmail.com

Caitlin is going into her third year of Directing with the Club, and her 15th year coaching volleyball overall. Her passion for coaching and mentoring younger athletes began in high school and was strong enough to keep her looking for coaching opportunities as she moved around Canada and to the United States. With a Bachelor of Kinesiology, and a Masters of Science in Exercise Science, as well as a background in Personal Training, Caitlin enjoys bringing her knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, and Sport Psychology to the teams she coaches. Currently, Caitlin is the Assistant Director for Sports Clubs within the Campus Recreation Department at Western Washington University and loves that she gets to continue helping students become strong leaders on and off the field as they move through college.

Caitlin spent her high school years as a dual sport athlete and continued on with Basketball in college. When she stopped playing, she got back into developing her skills as a coach for both sports, but ultimately Volleyball was her passion. She prioritizes teaching players to build both volleyball knowledge and skills that will help them both on and off the court as they progress through their lives. Caitlin is so excited to work with our U12s this year, and starting building their skills and love of the game.

Holly Ste. Marie - Director of Operations

Email: hstemarie.apexnwvc@gmail.com

Holly is going into her eighth year of coaching with the Club. She graduated from Western Washington University with her Bachelor’s Degree. Upon graduation she decided to continue her time at Western and currently works in the Campus Recreation Department where she administers their social media platforms as well as scheduling for the facility. Holly is currently getting her Masters in Athletic Administration from Central Washington University to further her love of athletics in our community and be a larger asset on the team at Apex NW. In addition, Holly coached for two years as an Assistant Volleyball Coach at Whatcom Community College. She then decided she wanted to continue on in her love for junior level volleyball and now is in her second season as the Head JV Coach at Squalicum High School.

Holly has a passion for bringing our community together through the use of website, events, social media and marketing. In her time with Apex NW she has developed content and a brand for our program to stand firm on. She has fostered events and social media campaigns as her ultimate goal for Apex NW is to be united as a program, family and community.

Holly cultivates an environment of growth by ensuring her players feel safe and supported, build a strong knowledge of the game, improve upon their volleyball abilities, and learn skills that will take them far beyond the gym. She is looking forward to another great season!
